My name is Chelsea Stewart (previously Dunmire), and I teach at Meridian High School in Macon, Illinois. My journey through college has been slightly unconventional. I started off at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, but I decided their education program didn't really fit my needs. After that, I transferred to Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, where I finished my degree in English education with a writing minor and a middle school endorsement. I also took classes at Richland Community College in Decatur, Illinois, while I was in high school and during summers. In 2021 I also received my MA in English with a concentration in British literature.
Traveling is a passion of mine, and I am lucky to have been to some amazing places. Some of my favorites include Hawaii (multiple islands); New Orleans, Louisiana; Washington, D.C.; Sacramento, California; Nashville, Tennessee; Asheville, North Carolina; and Miami, Florida. I love spending time with my family. I have a husband named Andrew and a son named Rowan. We also have two cats: Cici and Willow. We adore our animals, and we treat them like royalty. My husband and I have large families, so we spend a lot of time with them when we can. When it comes to the classroom, my modern mystery class is my favorite, but I think that's because it was something I was able to design on my own. There was nothing already set that students and faculty were used to. I have always found mysteries to be fascinating because I always wanted to know how the story would end. My students tend to agree, and they sometimes ask if they can read "just one more chapter" if there's a cliffhanger. Other units that I really enjoy would have to be Arsenic and Old Lace, Of Mice and Men, and our historical fiction unit in my honors class, The Invention of Hugo Cabret. |
